Reach home when you're out
At home, your phone and laptop reach over your own network. When you're out, private access lets them reach it through a WireGuard tunnel that only your household's devices can use.
Turn it on
Private access is off until an admin turns it on.
- On your home router, forward UDP port 51820 to the server, or point the address at a relay that forwards it.
- Open Settings › Network and, under Private access, turn on Private access.
- Check Devices connect to. It's your server's own address unless you set another, such as a relay's. If it says Nothing yet, choose Set it… and enter one, or give your server an address first; see Your domain and HTTPS.
The same switch is with the household rules in Settings › People.
Add your phone or laptop
Adults, admins and the owner can add their own devices. Children and guests can't.
- Open Settings › Phones and laptops and choose Add a device.
- Give it a name, such as Sam's phone, and choose Add device.
- Get the free WireGuard app on the device.
- In WireGuard, add a tunnel and scan the code on screen. On a laptop, choose Download the file and import it instead.
- Turn the tunnel on. Solel shows when the device has connected.
The code holds the device's key, so keep it to yourself. It's only shown once: if you lose it, remove the device and add it again.
What goes through it
Only Solel goes through the tunnel. Everything else on your device uses its own connection, as usual. Through the tunnel, a device reaches Solel and the web addresses it serves, with the same sign-in, and nothing else on your home network. Phones that sync your calendars and contacts use it too when you're away.
Removing a device
Choose Remove… beside it in Settings › Phones and laptops. It stops connecting straight away. Admins can remove anyone's device, and its owner can add it again later.
