Jethro, your first Sol
Jethro is the Sol that comes with . Everyone at home who can talk to Sols has their own Jethro, with its own memory of them. This page covers where to find Jethro and what you can change.
Talk to Jethro
- Click Jethro in the dock.
- Click Jethro in the menu bar. You can hide it there in Settings › Dock and menu bar.
- Press Ctrl Alt A anywhere on the desktop.
- Open Genesis//ark and pick Jethro.
Jethro's window opens with its live face and your conversation. Click the conversation's title for a menu to search your conversations, start a new one, rename, branch or delete this one, or open it in Genesis//ark.
To send something with a message, use the attach button for a photo or file from your computer, a file From Files, a screenshot of a window, or what's on the clipboard. You can also drop files anywhere on the window. Any file you upload is kept in the chat's Filespace, in your Files under Genesis ark, and pictures, videos, PDFs, Word documents and text files go with the message for Jethro to read. Jethro can find other files there itself.
Jethro's window and Genesis//ark show the same conversations, so one started in either is in both.
How Jethro works
Jethro is direct. A one-line question gets a one-line answer, and finished work gets a short report of what changed and what's left. When it isn't sure, it says so. Like every Sol, it asks before it acts for you.
Jethro's soul is Solel's own, written for looking after your home with you. It thinks with the model your server uses, and it can find your files, see your calendars and draft emails, like any Sol. See What a Sol is.
Make Jethro yours
Jethro's name, role, face, voice and memory are yours to change. A new name shows everywhere at once: the dock, the menu bar and the window.
- Open Genesis//ark and choose Sols.
- Choose Jethro under Yours.
- Change what you like. Changes save as you go.
Jethro can't be removed or shared with the household, and its page has no soul or personality dials, since those are Solel's own. To set how Jethro remembers you, see What Sols remember.
Apps can ask Jethro things too. See Asking Jethro.
