Faces
Every Sol wears a live face, which Genesis//ark calls its avatar. Its expressions follow how each reply feels.
Choose a face
- In Genesis//ark, open the Sol's page.
- Under Avatar, choose Change avatar.
- Pick Jethro's, one you made, or a ready-made Sol's.
- Choose Wear.
A face can be worn by more than one Sol. A ready-made face comes to your server the first time it's used, which can take a minute. See Face packs.
Adult expressions
Three expressions are for adults only. They stay off unless you turn on Adult expressions for your own account, in Settings › Sols. While it's off, Sols show a milder expression in their place, and new faces are made without them.
Make a face
Making a face needs an image service, which an admin sets up once. By default only owners and admins make faces.
- Choose Make an avatar, in Genesis//ark's settings under Avatars or on a Sol's page. In the face picker, choose Make a new face.
- Describe: start from a description, a photo, or a ready-made avatar to change. Choose a look: Photo, Illustrated, Painted or Creature.
- Pick a look: choose one of four, choose Make 4 more, or say what to change.
- Expressions: each is made from that look. Make one again with a change, or pause.
- Check and save: try each feeling live, name the avatar and choose which Sol wears it.
Starting from a photo needs the person's permission, and your word that they're 18 or over. Both are saved with the face.
A face in the making waits under Avatars in Genesis//ark's settings. Faces you made are listed there too, with Export and Remove. Only your own Sols can wear them.
Set up the image service
- In Genesis//ark's settings, under Avatars, choose Set up beside Image service.
- Choose an image service:
- ComfyUI on your network, with a workflow that makes a picture and one that changes it. Your own graphics card makes the pictures between chats. It's slower, but free and private.
- An online image API: OpenAI, or any service that speaks the OpenAI images API, with its key. The key stays on your server and is never shown again.
- Off, so nobody can make avatars.
- Set Images per avatar, at most (40 to start with), and Who can make avatars: Owners and admins, or Everyone who talks to Sols.
- Choose Test, then Save.
With an online service, the description and any photo go to that service. The pictures come back and are only stored on your server. One person can use up to four faces' worth of pictures a day.
