Writing, templates and send later

Writing in Mail opens beside your mail, so you can keep reading while you write. What you write saves to Drafts as you go.

Write a message

  1. Press New, or c.
  2. If you have more than one account, choose who it's From.
  3. Add who it's To. Mail suggests people you've written to and people in your contacts. Press Cc and Bcc for those.
  4. Write the Subject and message. You can use bold, lists, links, colours and pictures.
  5. Press Send.

Minimise folds a message to a bar, and Full window gives it the whole of Mail. You can have up to three open. Closing one keeps it in Drafts.

Attachments

Press Attach to add files From this device, From Files or From Photos. A message can carry up to 25 MB. If a file from your own Files is bigger, and everyone the message is to is on your server, Share it in Files instead shares it with them and puts a link in the message.

Signatures

  1. In Mail's Settings, under Signatures, press New signature.
  2. In each account's section, choose its Signature on new mail and Signature on replies and forwards.

The first signature you add goes on accounts that have none. While you write, the Signature button picks another, or none.

Templates

A template is a message you write often, kept to start from.

  1. Write the message, then open Templates at the bottom and choose Save as a template.
  2. Next time, open Templates and pick it under Put in a template.

It goes in where your cursor is, with its subject if the message has none yet. Change or delete templates in Mail's Settings, under Templates.

Undo send

After you press Send, Mail waits 10 seconds before the message goes, with Undo. Change the wait in Mail's Settings, under Sending, to none or 5, 20 or 30 seconds.

If a message can't send, it stays in Drafts with the reason, and you get a notification.

Send later

  1. Open the arrow beside Send.
  2. Choose Tomorrow morning, Tomorrow afternoon, Monday morning, or Choose a date and time, up to a year ahead.

The message waits in Scheduled and goes at that time, even if nobody has Mail open. To change it, open it from Scheduled and press Change it. It waits in Drafts while you do, so send it or choose Send later again when it's ready.

Help from your Sol

If you talk with Jethro or another Sol, Ask, followed by your Sol's name, writes a message from a few words, or makes what you've written shorter, friendlier or more formal, or fixes its spelling and grammar. What it writes waits on a card until you press Use it. Your Sol never sends anything.
