Moving in

Settings › Moving in brings your photos, mail, calendars, contacts and Drive into Solel from Google Takeout. Everyone sees it and brings in their own things. Once an import has finished, Moving in leaves the Settings sidebar; search Settings for it to open it again. This page is the reference for each step; for the whole move, see Moving in from Google, Apple or Microsoft.

Solel reads a copy. It never signs in to your old account, and nothing is deleted where your things came from.

Where things go

Each kind goes to the app here that takes it: Photos and videos, Mail, Calendars, Contacts and Drive. The page names the app for each. A kind with no app to take it shows No app takes these yet and isn't brought in. Contacts that look like ones you already have are merged into them.

The steps

The page walks through Export, Send, Choose, Bring in and Check.

  1. Choose Open Google Takeout. Choose Google Photos, Mail, Calendar, Contacts and Drive, then .zip or .tgz. Google emails you when the export is ready, which can take a day.
  2. Download the archives. Big accounts come in several; keep them together.
  3. Drop them all on the page at once. Keep the page open while they send. If sending stops, it carries on from where it got to; after a reload, drop the same archives again.
  4. Solel looks through the archives and lists what's in each kind: how many, how big, and which app they go into. Switch off anything you don't want. Room on the server says whether it all fits.
  5. Choose Bring them in. You can close Settings, and you get a notification when it's done. If it stops, Carry on picks up where it left off.
  6. Check the results. What was left out, and why lists anything that didn't come in, such as things already here or not chosen, and What couldn't be brought in gives the apps' reasons.

Running it again

Nothing you've imported before comes in twice, from the same archives or later ones. Choose Import more to bring in another export.

The archives stay on the server until the import finishes, then they're removed. Delete stops an import and deletes its archives; anything already brought in stays. If space runs short, leave something out, or make room in Settings › Storage.
