People: adults, children and guests
Settings › People lists everyone with an account on this server. Only admins and the owner see it. This page is the reference; for a first run through, see Set up your household.
Kinds of account
| Account | What it gets |
|---|---|
| Owner | Runs the server. There is one. |
| Admin | Runs the server with the owner: people, domains and updates. |
| Adult | Their own apps, files and Sols. |
| Child | Only what a parent shares with them. No Sols. |
| Guest | Only what's shared with them, until a date you choose. |
Admins manage everyone but the owner, and nobody can make another owner.
Add someone
- Choose Add someone.
- Enter their name. Solel suggests a username from it: 2 to 32 letters, numbers, dots or dashes.
- Choose the Account: Admin, Adult, Child or Guest.
- For a child, tick at least one parent. For a guest, choose the day the account works until. It's a week from today to begin with, and the account stops at the end of that day.
- Add an email address if you like, and a first password of at least 10 characters. Tell them the password in person.
- Choose Add. They can sign in straight away.
Invite someone
Invite makes a link for an adult or an admin, who choose their own username and password from it. Give it a name to remind you who it's for, and an email address if Solel should send it. Each link makes one account and works once, for a week. Invites waiting lists the ones not used yet, and Take back stops one working. Children and guests are added with Add someone.
Change someone's account
Choose a person to change their account kind, picture or email address. The owner's account can't be opened here, and choosing yourself changes your picture.
Solel only emails an address an admin has saved or confirmed. When someone added their own, it shows Confirm: check it's theirs, then choose it so Solel can email them.
You can also:
- Reset password…: they're signed out everywhere, and their API keys stop working.
- Clear second steps…: removes their authenticator app, passkeys and backup codes, for when they've lost their phone.
- Turn off…: signs them out everywhere and stops them signing in. Their files stay put, and you can turn the account back on.
- Make a set-up link: for someone who hasn't chosen a password yet. It works once, for a week.
A guest's account has a Can use Sols switch. Children never get Sols.
Groups
Add a group and tick who's in it. Files and folders can be shared with a group, and each group has a space in Files. Everyone is built in, and always holds everyone on the server. Children in a group can only view what's shared with it.
Further down
Household rules sit on this page too. Below them, Directory sync keeps people and groups up to date from Okta, Microsoft Entra or another SCIM directory, or from . It never changes the owner or admins, or deletes anyone.
