Your tabs on every device

There's one browser for you, and it runs on your server. Open Browser on another device and you're looking at the same browser, with the same tabs.

The same tabs everywhere

  • A tab you open on the laptop is already waiting on your phone. Close one on either and it closes on both.
  • The new tab page lists a few of your other open tabs under Same tabs on every device.
  • On a phone, the tab count beside the address opens your tabs as cards. Pages get their mobile layout there.
  • On a very wide screen, the tabs and your pinned sites go down the side.

Pinned sites

The new tab page keeps up to 16 pinned sites.

  1. Open a new tab.
  2. Choose Pin a site.
  3. Type the address, and a name if you like, then choose Pin.

To unpin one, point at it and choose the cross. On a phone, choose Change pins first.

When you're not using it

Your browser stops once nobody has looked at it for a while, 15 minutes unless an admin changed it, and the memory it used is freed. Open Browser again and it starts back up on your server, with your tabs where you left them.

Changing one of your own settings in Settings › Browser, like the search engine, starts your browser again too. Your tabs come back.

Your server runs only so many browsers at once, 4 unless an admin changed it. If they're all in use, Browser says so. Choose Try again in a little while, once one of them has stopped.

For admins

Admins set these for the household in Settings › Browser, under For the household:

  • Browsers running at once, at most, up to 8. Each one uses about 0.5 to 1 GB of memory.
  • Stop a browser nobody is looking at after: 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or 2 hours.
  • Home network pages lets admins open pages on your home network, like the router, by typing an address such as 192.168.1.1. It's never on for anyone else, and never for children.

Away from home

The video reaches your devices on your server's media ports, 52000 to 52015, over UDP, or TCP when UDP can't get through. To use Browser away from home, whoever looks after the server forwards those ports on your router to it, and sets SOLEL_MEDIA_ADDRESSES for the apps service to the server's home network address and its public one. For reaching home in general, see Reach home when you're out.
