What you need
runs on an ordinary computer that stays on, at home or in the office. Here's what it needs.
The computer
- Linux on a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor (x86-64). The installer stops on any other processor.
- About 20 GB free for and its first AI model, plus room for everyone's files, photos and mail.
- Root, or an account that can use sudo.
- curl, tar and sha256sum, which most Linux distributions already have.
- Docker Engine with the Docker Compose plugin. If Docker isn't there, the installer sets it up with Docker's own script.
- Linux 5.6 or later, for private access.
A graphics card, if you have one
A graphics card isn't needed, but it makes Jethro and the other Sols much quicker. AMD Radeon and Intel Arc cards work through Vulkan, and NVIDIA cards through CUDA. Without one, the models run on the processor, more slowly. See Graphics cards.
The Aether Series models are about 3 GB (Angel 1), 6 GB (Dominion 1) and 16 GB (Seraphim 1) to download. The installer picks one to suit your card.
The network
- Ports 80, 443 and 8080 free on the server. The installer checks before it starts.
- The server on your home network, so you can open it at port 8080 from another device while you set it up.
Later, depending on what you turn on:
- A domain name, for an address with HTTPS and passkeys. See Your domain and HTTPS.
- UDP port 51820 forwarded to the server, for private access.
- A Migadu account, for email on your own domain. See Email for your domain.
A second drive for backups
Snapshots sit on the same drive as everything else, so they can't help if that drive fails. For a copy that can, add a second drive or a USB drive. offers the disks the server mounts under /media and /mnt. See Back up to another drive.
