Health and safe mode

Settings › Health shows how this server is doing: its drives and space, backups and the services Solel runs on. Everyone can see it. Admins also get safe mode, what changed lately and the logs.

The checks

The top of the page sums it up: Good, Needs a look, Problem, Not checked or Off. Below it, each check sits under its area.

  • Storage: space on Solel's disk, and each drive's own health. See Storage and drive health.
  • Backups: whether backups are set up, and whether the last one worked and was tested. See Back up to another drive.
  • Services: each service Solel runs on, and whether it's running and answering.
  • Updates: the last update, and whether it went in.

Solel checks every minute, and the page looks again every 30 seconds while it's open. Admins are told when a check turns bad, and again when it's fine. Admins can choose a check to open the page where it's fixed; anyone can open Storage. When something needs a look, everyone else sees that their admins know.

What changed and logs

What changed lists the latest checks that turned bad or came good. Logs shows the newest lines from Solel's core, its other services or an app, with Everything, Warnings or Errors, and Refresh. The core's lines are kept until it restarts; the others are copied every 30 seconds.

Safe mode

Safe mode restarts Solel with every app off, so an app that's causing trouble can be turned off or removed. Apps and their data are kept.

  1. In Settings › Health, choose Restart in safe mode, then confirm. Apps stop for everyone, and the page reloads when Solel is back.
  2. Turn off or remove the app causing trouble in Settings › Apps, or restore a snapshot.
  3. Choose Leave safe mode. Solel restarts with apps on again.

If safe mode was turned on in the server's own settings, the page says so. To leave, remove SOLEL_SAFE_MODE there and restart the server. When the desktop won't open at all, see When it won't start.
