Appearance

Settings › Appearance sets how looks for you. Your choices follow you to every device you sign in on, and nobody else's desktop changes.

Themes

A theme sets several things at once. Choose one to start from, then change anything you like; the page calls the result your own mix.

  • Daybreak: the house look. A soft sun, frosted glass, Light by day and Flare by night.
  • Solar flare: the sun's surface in Flare, deep flare and Observatory bells.
  • Studio: for long working days. Linen, solid windows, tight corners, a small dock on the left and ink icons.
  • Big and clear: the largest text, a large dock, solid surfaces and nothing moving.
  • Beach house: the pool by day and a night swim after dark, clear glass, soft flare and water sounds.
  • Night shift: the Milky Way, always Flare, solid and quiet, with sounds off.
  • Terminal: Plex Mono everywhere, tight corners and ink icons, in Flare.
  • Backyard: made with children in mind. Cut paper, big icons, round corners and larger text.

Mode

  • Light and Flare, Daybreak's dark mode.
  • Auto follows the device you're on. It's where everyone starts.
  • Follow the sun is Light while the sun is up at home and Flare after it sets. Choose Home from the list of places, and the row shows today's sunrise and sunset there.

Wallpaper

Choose a collection, then a picture in it.

  • Daybreak: Sunrise and Noon for Light, Dusk and Night for Flare.
  • Planets: eight planets, each drawn five ways. They move slowly.
  • Local sky: the sun where it really is over home, redrawn each minute.
  • Solar, Southern sky, Landfall, Shallows and At home: each picture is drawn for both Light and Flare.

Light and glass

  • Flare: Soft, Standard or Deep, for how strong flare fills are.
  • Glass: Clear, Frosted or Solid. Solid is easiest to read over any wallpaper.
  • Corners: Tight, Standard or Round, for windows, menus, cards and buttons.

Text and icons

  • Text size: Standard, Large or Largest. What's inside windows grows; the menu bar and the dock stay as they are.
  • App icons: Colour, Flare or Ink.
  • Window titles in Unbounded and Plex Mono everywhere switch the typefaces.

Motion and sound

  • Motion: Full, Calm or Still. Calm runs live wallpapers at half pace and stops the dock magnifying. Still fades windows and menus instead of moving them, and holds wallpapers still.
  • Sounds: Daybreak, Shallows, Observatory or Off. Sounds are quiet and short, and each comes with something on screen. The buttons below play them, such as Start-up and Notification, so you can hear them first.
