Network and domains
Settings › Network is how this server is reached and how it sends email. Only admins and the owner see it. For setting up a domain from the start, see Your domain and HTTPS.
This server
Choose Change (or Set it…) to edit these.
- Solel's address: a name, not an IP address, such as home.example.com, so passkeys and HTTPS work. Passkeys belong to this address, so if you change it, everyone adds a new passkey. Apps that sign in with Solel are sent here.
- Apps' addresses: optional. Apps with their own address are published under it, like notes.apps.example.com. Left empty, Solel's address is used.
- Certificate email: optional. Let's Encrypt writes here if a certificate is about to run out.
- Who looks after DNS: I do means you point each address at this server yourself. Cloudflare means Solel adds and updates the records, and certificates work behind a relay and for wildcards. It needs a Cloudflare API token that can read zones and edit DNS. Solel finds your public address itself and checks it every 10 minutes, or you can enter one, such as your relay's.
Routes
A route sends a web address to an app or service at home, with HTTPS.
- Choose Add a route.
- Enter the Address, such as photos.example.com.
- Enter where it Sends to, such as http://192.168.1.20:2342. localhost means the router's own container.
- Choose Who can open it: Everyone at home, Certain people, or Anyone on the internet, with no sign-in. Use the last only for things meant to be public.
- Set the Largest upload, in megabytes. It starts at 100.
- Choose Add route.
Without Cloudflare, point the address at this server in your DNS first; Solel checks it before asking for a certificate. Each route shows Secure, Getting a certificate, Needs a fix or Off. Open one that needs a fix to see why, and choose Retry now. Routes an app publishes follow the app, so change them in Settings › Apps.
Private access
The Private access switch lets adults, admins and the owner add their phones and laptops in Phones and laptops. Children and guests can't. Forward UDP port 51820 on your home router to this server, or point the address at a relay that does.
Devices connect to is Solel's own address unless you set one just for the tunnel. Add a port if it isn't 51820, such as relay.example.com:51821. Devices already set up keep the old address until they're removed and added again.
When a part isn't running
A server started by hand with Docker may be missing the router or private access. Network then says "The router isn't running", or shows Private access as Not running, and the sidebar shows Off beside Network. How to turn it on links to the steps. Run the command from the folder that holds compose.yaml; for the router, the page gives it ready to copy, with Check again:
docker compose up -d caddy core
Private access needs the router too:
docker compose up -d caddy tunnel core
Email server
Solel emails alerts and invites through any mail service that offers SMTP. Choose Set up… and enter the server (such as smtp.example.com), security (STARTTLS, usually port 587, or TLS, usually 465), username, password and the From address. The password is often an app password your mail service makes for you, and it's kept on this server. Send a test email sends one to your own address, and Turn off email stops it.
