Install with one line

The installer sets up a Linux machine as a server in one go. This page covers what it does in detail. Install it on your own computer is the short version.

Run it

On the machine that will be your server:

curl -fsSL https://solel.io/install | sh

To read the script before you run it:

curl -fsSL https://solel.io/install -o install.sh
less install.sh
sh install.sh

What it does

  1. Checks the machine: Linux, a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor, curl, tar and sha256sum, and root or sudo. Some steps need administrator rights, so sudo may ask for your password.
  2. Installs Docker with Docker's own script from get.docker.com if it isn't there, then checks Docker is running and Docker Compose is installed.
  3. Checks ports 80, 443 and 8080 are free, and warns if Docker has less than 20 GB of space.
  4. Downloads the latest server bundle from Solel's releases on GitHub and checks its checksum. If cosign is installed, it also checks the bundle is signed by 's release workflow.
  5. Puts it in /opt/solel, with a .env file that pins every image to that release.
  6. Uses an AMD or NVIDIA graphics card for the AI model if there is one, and picks the first model: Angel 1 on the processor or a card under 8 GB, Seraphim 1 on a card of 20 GB or more, and Dominion 1 otherwise.
  7. Downloads the apps and the model runtime, a few GB, then starts and waits for it to answer.
  8. Prints the address to open, such as http://192.168.1.20:8080.

The model itself downloads the first time starts, so Jethro is ready once it has.

What's in /opt/solel

  • compose.yaml, plus compose.amd.yaml and compose.nvidia.yaml for graphics cards.
  • .env, readable only by root: which compose files to use, the profile that runs the Sols, the first model, a database password for Genesis Memory, and the images. Updates change only the image lines.
  • release.env, version.txt, Caddy's starting config and the licence.

.env also sets SOLEL_INSECURE_COOKIES=true, so the owner can sign in over plain HTTP while setting up. Once the server has an HTTPS address, set it to false, as Your domain and HTTPS shows.

Options

Put them before sh:

curl -fsSL https://solel.io/install | SOLEL_DIR=/srv/solel sh
curl -fsSL https://solel.io/install | SOLEL_VERSION=0.21.0 sh

SOLEL_DIR puts in another folder. SOLEL_VERSION installs that version instead of the latest.

Running it again

If the folder already has its .env and compose.yaml, the installer leaves your settings as they are, downloads the images again and starts . If a download stops partway, run it again to pick up where it left off.

After the first install, updates itself from Settings › Updates.
