Face packs

A face pack is what a Sol's live face is drawn from: the same figure in fifteen expressions, a still picture and small circle pictures for the dock and menu bar. This page covers where packs come from and how they reach your server.

Where packs come from

  • Jethro's face comes with .
  • Ready-made faces: each ready-made Sol has its own pack, which Solel keeps on solel.io.
  • Faces you make in Genesis//ark are packs too, kept on your server. See Faces.

How a ready-made face reaches your server

Your server doesn't keep every ready-made face to start with. The first time anyone on your server adds a ready-made Sol, or picks its face for one of their own Sols, fetches that face from solel.io. After that it's on your server for everyone.

The Genesis Engine has no way out to the internet of its own, so fetches the file and hands it over. Both check it's exactly the file Solel's ready-made catalogue lists, by its size and checksum, so nothing else is ever kept. The connection shows in Settings › Privacy as getting faces for ready-made Sols from solel.io.

Adult expressions in a pack

Three of a pack's fifteen expressions are for adults. Your browser only gets those pictures when Adult expressions is on for your account, in Settings › Sols. Otherwise it gets a version of the pack without them, and the face shows a milder expression in their place.

Export a face you made

A face you made can be saved as a .solelface file, a copy of the whole pack.

  1. In Genesis//ark, open settings with the gear by your name.
  2. Under Avatars, find the face.
  3. Choose Export.

A face still in the making can be exported too, with Export .solelface in the face steps.

A face made from a photo keeps the person's permission, and your word that they're an adult, inside its pack. The details are in The avatar pack format.
