Household rules
Household rules are everything the household may do, in one place. They're a group on Settings › People, so only admins and the owner see them. Admins and the owner can always do everything here.
Two-factor sign-in
Two-factor sign-in chooses who must use an authenticator app or a passkey: Nobody, Admins or Everyone. It starts on Nobody. Anyone it covers sets one up the next time they sign in, and can't use apps until then. Each person sets theirs up in Sign-in and security.
What adults may do
| Rule | Off means | To begin with |
|---|---|---|
| Adults can install apps for themselves | Only admins install apps, for everyone or for themselves. | Off |
| Adults can share public links | Only admins make links to a file or folder that anyone who has the link can open. | Off |
| Adults can make their own Sols | Only admins make Sols, and share them with the household. | On |
Children never install apps themselves, share public links or get Sols. A child asks for an app and a parent decides, in Settings › Apps. Guests can't install apps or share public links.
Private access
Private access lets adults add their phones and laptops, to reach this server when they're away. It's the same switch as in Settings › Network, where you also set where devices connect. If the server was started without private access, the row offers Open Network instead.
Where the rules show
Other pages show where a rule stands. Settings › Apps, for one, shows whether adults can install apps: admins get a Change button that comes back here, and everyone else sees that an admin sets it for the household.
