For admins

Your own address @yourdomain

With your own domain, everyone in the household can have an address like sam@example.com. Your domain's mail is hosted at Migadu, a mail service, and Mail brings each mailbox in like any other account, with a copy kept on your server. Email for your domain explains why, and how the mail itself is handled.

You need a Migadu account and a domain whose DNS records you can change. Only owners and admins see Own addresses in Mail's Settings.

Set up your domain

  1. In Migadu, make an API key under My Account › API Keys.
  2. In Mail, open Settings and find Own addresses.
  3. Type Your domain, The email you sign in to Migadu with and the Migadu API key, then press Set up.
  4. Mail lists the DNS records Migadu needs. Add each one where you manage your domain's DNS. The copy buttons copy each name and value.
  5. Press Check now. DNS changes can take an hour or so to show.

Once every record but DMARC is in, the domain says Ready. DMARC is good to have, but the domain works without it.

Give people addresses

  • Turn on An address for everyone, and each person gets an address at their username. It starts working the first time they sign in. Guests and children don't get one.
  • Or press Add an address, choose Someone's own address, and pick Whose it is. Only people who've opened Mail are listed.

Each address shows up in its person's Mail by itself. Nobody sees or types its password.

Addresses that pass mail on

Press Add an address and choose One that passes mail on, like family@. Then choose who gets the mail. They can all send as it too: it's under From when they write, and a reply goes from the address the message came to.

Under Sending, turn on Mail to any other address at your domain to send stray mail to one mailbox instead of bouncing it back.

If you use , teams can have an address that follows the team. See Mailboxes for everyone.

Deleting and forgetting

Deleting someone's address deletes the mailbox at Migadu, with any mail still there. Choose Delete, keep the copy to keep Mail's copy here to read and search, or Delete it all. Deleting an address that passes mail on deletes nobody's mail.

Forget this domain stops Solel looking after it. Nothing changes at Migadu, and everyone's addresses stay connected in Mail.

After restoring a backup or moving to another server, Own addresses asks for the Migadu API key again. Enter it and press Use this key.
