Get the apps for Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone

works in any modern browser. The Solel app opens your server's desktop in a window of its own instead, and keeps itself up to date. Everything inside it is your server's own desktop, so it's all there once you sign in.

On a computer

Download the app from solel.io/get:

Computer Download
Mac with Apple silicon or Intel, macOS 11 or later Solel_macOS_universal.dmg
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit Solel_Windows_x64-setup.exe
Linux Solel_Linux_amd64.AppImage, or Solel_Linux_amd64.deb for Debian and Ubuntu

If your computer asks whether to trust the app the first time you open it: on a Mac, go to System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open anyway. On Windows, choose More info, then Run anyway.

Connect to your server

  1. Open Solel.
  2. Under Server address, enter the address you open at in your browser, such as home.example.com. Choose Connect.
  3. Sign in as usual.

The app checks the address is a Solel server and remembers it, so next time it opens straight to your desktop. To use another server, choose Solel › Change server….

The app checks for updates shortly after it opens and every six hours, or when you choose Solel › Check for updates…. Every update is signed, and the app checks the signature before installing it.

A few things work differently from the browser:

  • The Linux app can't use passkeys, so sign in there with your password.
  • Notifications pushed to the browser don't reach the app.
  • Downloads go to your Downloads folder, and links to other sites open in your browser.

On iPhone

The iPhone app, for iOS 16 or later, is in beta on TestFlight. Ask for an invite at solel.io/get. It connects the same way.

On the connect screen, Ask for Face ID when opening Solel makes the app ask for Face ID, or your passcode, before it opens your server. It locks again after five minutes in the background. On a Mac with Touch ID, the connect screen offers the same with Touch ID.

On Android and other phones

Open your server's address in the phone's browser and add it to your home screen. Solel then opens full screen, like an app, and can send you notifications. On an iPhone without the app, tap Share in Safari, then Add to Home Screen.

To reach your server when you're out, see Reach home when you're out.
