Calendars and who sees them

Everyone has calendars of their own, and can share them with other people on the server. A family calendar is a calendar shared with everyone in the family.

Your calendars

The first time you open Calendar, you get one called Personal. You can have up to 50, and you always keep at least one.

To make another:

  1. Open Calendar settings, at the bottom of the sidebar.
  2. Under My calendars, press New calendar.
  3. Give it a Name and a Colour (Flare, Ink or Umber), then press Create.

Rename or delete a calendar from the same list. Deleting one deletes every event in it, for you, for everyone it's shared with and on every phone that syncs it.

Tick or untick a calendar in the sidebar to show or hide its events.

Share a calendar

  1. In Calendar settings, press Share beside the calendar.
  2. Beside each person, choose Can see or Can change.
  3. Press Save.

Each person you add gets a notification, and the calendar appears under Shared in their sidebar. Only people on your server can be added, and guests can't. Children can see a shared calendar but never change it.

To stop sharing with someone, open Share again and choose Not shared.

Calendars shared with you

These are under Shared in the sidebar, and under Shared with you in Calendar settings, with whose they are and whether you can see or change them. Press Remove to stop seeing one. Its owner can share it with you again.

Only a calendar's owner can rename it, change its colour or choose who it's shared with.

Who sees what

Nobody sees your calendars unless you share them. Being an admin doesn't change this: an admin sees only their own calendars and the ones shared with them.

Bring calendars in

To add events from another calendar app, drop its .ics files under Bring your calendars in, in Calendar settings, and choose which calendar to Add them to. Events already there are left alone, so it's safe to bring in the same file twice. To move everything from Google at once, see Moving in from Google, Apple or Microsoft.
