What Sols remember

Sols remember what matters from your chats, so you don't have to tell them twice. This page covers the three kinds of memory, how each Sol uses them, and how to look through or forget what they keep.

Three kinds of memory

  • A Sol's own memory: what it remembers of your chats with it. It's always on, and only that Sol reads it.
  • Shared memory: what all your Sols know about you. Nobody else at home sees it.
  • Household notes: notes people at home pin for every Sol, like bin night or the Wi-Fi name. Everyone at home can see them.

Secrets and card numbers are blanked out before anything is kept. Only you see your Sols' own and shared memories.

How each Sol remembers

Each Sol's page in Genesis//ark has a Memory section:

  • Reads your shared memory: on or off.
  • Adds to your shared memory: Asks first, Without asking, or Never.
  • Reads household notes: on or off.

A new Sol reads both and asks first before it adds to your shared memory. Companions start private: they leave household notes alone, and what you tell them stays with them unless you share it.

When a Sol asks first

A Sol that learns something your other Sols should know asks in the chat: it wants all your Sols to know this. Choose Save for all or Not this. What you haven't answered waits in Genesis//ark's settings, under Waiting for your OK.

Look through or forget memories

  1. In Genesis//ark, choose the gear by your name to open its settings.
  2. Under Memory, choose Open beside Every memory.
  3. Choose Each Sol's own (then whose), Shared or Household, or search.
  4. Under a memory, choose what to do with it:
    • Share gives one Sol's memory to all your Sols.
    • Keep to a Sol moves a shared memory back to the Sol that learned it.
    • Forget removes it. You can't undo this.

Pin a household note

  1. In Genesis//ark's settings, under Memory, choose Pin a note beside Household notes.
  2. Write the note, like "Bins go out on Tuesday night", and choose Pin it.

Every Sol at home that reads household notes then knows it.

What stays and what goes

  • Deleting a chat doesn't delete what the Sol remembered from it.
  • Removing a Sol deletes everything it remembers.
  • A copy made with Duplicate starts with an empty memory.
  • A Sol shared with the household keeps a separate memory for each person who talks to it.
  • The trial chat when you make a Sol isn't remembered.
