Join codes

Another server, such as a branch office's, can join your organisation. Its people then sign in there with their organisation account, and keeps them and their teams up to date. It takes a join code from you and a paste on the other server.

Make a join code

On the server that runs :

  1. Open Settings › Servers and choose Make a join code.
  2. Name the Server, like Sydney office.
  3. Under Who uses it, choose Everyone in the organisation or Certain teams. The people in the teams inside those get accounts too.
  4. Choose Make code, then Copy code.

The code is shown only once. It works once, for a week. Anyone with it can join a server, so send it only to the other server's admin.

Codes not used yet show under Waiting to join, where you can Cancel one.

Join with the code

On the other server, an owner or admin:

  1. Opens Settings › People.
  2. Under Directory sync, chooses Join an organisation.
  3. Pastes the Join code and chooses Join.

The organisation's people and teams arrive within a few minutes. If joining fails part way, nothing is left half made, and the code can be used again.

Once it's joined

  • The other server's sign-in screen offers Sign in with your organisation. Its people sign in through your server, with the account they already have.
  • Everyone who may use it, and their teams, are sent every 30 minutes. People who lose access, or leave, are turned off there.
  • Signing out everywhere, choosing a new password or being turned off in the organisation signs people out there straight away.
  • The other server's owner and admins keep signing in with their own passwords.

On your server, the joined server is listed in Settings › Servers, and also shows in Sign-in apps.

Leaving it

  • Remove… in Settings › Servers stops its people signing in there with their organisation account, and stops sending changes. Their accounts there stay, for its admins to look after.
  • On the other server, Disconnect… under Settings › People › Directory sync stops the organisation sending changes. The people and groups it sent stay, and that server's admins look after them from then on.

If joining isn't part of your licence, Settings › Servers says Not on your plan.
