Release notes
has one version number for everything that ships to your server together: the core, the desktop, the apps that come with it, Genesis Engine and the services around them. You'll find it in Settings › About and Settings › Updates.
What the numbers mean
Versions look like 0.21.0.
- The last number goes up for releases that only fix things.
- The middle number goes up for new features.
- The first number goes up when something changes that needs you to act. Until reaches 1.0.0, those changes move the middle number instead.
What's new in each release
Every release has a changelog entry, written for the people who'll notice the change, in sections: New, Fixed, Faster, Security and Dependencies. A bigger release can have a short write-up of its own, which takes the changelog entry's place.
- Settings › About shows what's new in the version you're running, and its Every release link opens the whole changelog.
- Settings › Updates shows what's in a newer version before you install it, and says when it fixes a security problem.
- Every release is listed on GitHub at Solel-io/releases, with the server bundle and the desktop apps.
Channels
- Stable gets normal releases.
- Preview gets those and pre-releases, with versions like 0.4.0-beta.1, which bring new things first.
An admin picks the channel in Settings › Updates.
How a release reaches your server
Your server checks for a newer release every six hours. It only trusts a release signed by 's own release workflow, so nobody else can offer your server an update. Installing one takes a snapshot first, switches to the new version and checks it works. If it doesn't, Solel goes back to the version you had.
An admin can have updates install overnight, between 2 and 5 am, and security fixes straight away. See Updates.
The Solel apps for Mac, Windows and Linux are built with each release, at the same version, and update themselves. See Get the apps.
