Updates

Settings › Updates is where new versions of arrive. Only admins and the owner see it. Solel looks for a new version every six hours by itself, and Check now looks straight away.

Install an update

When one is ready, the page shows its version, when it was published, whether it fixes a security problem, and what's in it, with a link to its release notes. See Release notes for every release.

  1. Choose Install….
  2. Choose Install to confirm.

Solel takes a snapshot first, downloads the new version, restarts on it and checks it works. Everyone at home loses their connection for a minute or two, and the page reloads when it's in.

If the new version doesn't start properly, Solel goes back to the version before by itself, with your data as it was. The page then says the last try didn't work, and offers Try again….

Some servers can't install updates themselves. The page says so, and you update the server's containers the way it was installed.

How updates arrive

  • Install updates overnight: between 2 and 5 am, with a snapshot first. A version that didn't work waits for you. It starts off.
  • Install security fixes straight away: any time of day, with a snapshot first, when a release only fixes things. Bigger releases still wait. It starts on.
  • Channel: Stable or Preview. Preview gets new things first, before they come to Stable. Servers start on Stable.

The two install switches only show on a server that can install updates itself.

Update checks are off

If the server was started without update checks, the page says so and doesn't look for new versions. Update it the way it was installed.
